Show me your mentor, I’ll show you your future

The power of a mentor really displays the necessity of community. This is a Biblical perspective but go with me.
We’re not meant to do life alone.
I recently was asked by a friend on, The Unlearnt Podcast, who or what God used to help me in dark seasons? My mind naturally went to family, God ordained friendship and my mentor.
I furthered that at times I didn’t know if my mentor was just “gassing me up” because she felt I needed it. Or if she truly believed the words she was speaking to me.
Hindsight being 20/20, I now know the words were never hers but she had been given inSIGHT (that truly was perfect i.e. 20/20) by the Lord. Much of what “He” spoke, I’m living in today.
Mentorship cannot be haphazard but when done correctly, it’s led by God.
The definition of wisdom is the ability to see the end from the beginning. This is not humanly possible without the Lord.
Isaiah 46:10 says HE determines the end from the beginning and HIS counsel shall stand.
In other words, good counsel isn’t absent Godly wisdom because it’s the only thing that has sustainable power.
I felt like my life was giving Ezekiel 37 that describes the valley of dry bones. My mentor, took God’s words, spoke them repeatedly until what God said not just breathed but looked, maneuvered and moved exactly the way the Lord called it. Read the chapter for context.
As a mentor to many, I’ve seen the power of resurrection repeatedly. The essence of a mentor is to take what’s been marked dead and speak life.
It’s an anointing.
For those looking for a mentor or navigating being a mentor, do not neglect the relationship and insight from the Lord. It’s not solely about matching interests or careers. Our work in this life in whatever capacity is ministry. Therefore, we have to consider what God says & allow it to lead as our priority in the pour.
First, OPEN YOUR MOUTH. You’re not just saying what feels good, you can see, or what feels proper at the time. Speak what the Lord has said and shown you.
Tip: YOUR mentor will have a level of insight about you that is generally not known or currently seen. It’s normally above all you could ask, think or imagine which is a major nod it’s the Lord.
Godly insight about YOUR mentee is divinely sanctioned access. It should not be gossiped about or used against them. Instead, handle the sacred responsibility with care and caution, you will give an account (James 3:1).
Second, mentorship must be done in love. The LOVE is the key to resurrect what is seemingly or may be literally dead. Love is God. Everything in true mentorship points back to Him and we should do the same.
I challenge mentors to place a demand on the miracle working power of resurrection.
“Jesus wept” the shortest Bible Verse in John 11:35. This came after the news of the death of Lazarus. The scriptures shows how Jesus was moved by the weeping and sadness over who was dead & seemingly hopeless. It resulted in resurrection.
Love and contrition is powerful. It’s an overlooked weapon.
Yes, crying, wailing and brokenness over “someone else” out of the place of love. This selfless & pure state of being moves the Father and causes Him to be close to you (Psalm 51:7). Study the remainder of the chapter for further depth.
As a mentor, sometimes you have to get in the dirt. Pray, cry and wail for them. This selfless state is the posture of a mentor.
Tip: Before there was any resurrection, there was always wailing. Don’t sign up if you don’t want to work.
Third & final, death CANNOT kill what’s been assigned to live.
Mark 2:5 describes how the Faith of friends in lowering a sick paralyzed man to Jesus by cutting a hole in a roof, shows us it took much energy & being inconvenienced but the evidence spoke.
Imagine what it takes to move something that cannot move itself, which is another word for “dead weight.”
Dead weight is often heavier than an average weight because it doesn’t have the capacity to move itself.
This is what happened in the gospel of Mark 2, not only could the sick not move, they had to get him on top of a roof and cut a hole then lower the load to the answer, Jesus. That’s time, that’s energy, that’s A LOT.
Mentors you’re going to do A LOT but know your reward rests in the Lord. & it’s so much greater than anything you sowed. In fact, there are earthly returns and eternal rewards. Who can beat that?!
Tip: Although you are dealing with dead weight many days, if you keep towards the answer (JESUS) long enough, what was marked for death will not just live but be resurrected to have a greater walk than imagined.
In closing, “show me your mentor and I’ll show you your future.” You have to get the right one! One that’s rooted in the Lord.
It’s so interesting to me that people want to leave God out but want God like supernatural results. That’s not how this works.
True mentors divinely assigned have the power to resurrect what is or is seemingly dead but that power solely rest with Jesus Christ. The power of life is in the tongue, true mentors use His word and God given vision to call what isn’t as though it were (until it is).
Yes, get you a mentor! But in doing so make sure they’re living for Jesus and partnering in Faith. These are the ones that are literally empowered to change your life with their words.
